Opening Statements of Committee Members

Opening Statement of Senator Jim Bunning (R-KY)

Hearing on the Nomination of Donald E. Powell to be a Member and Chairman
of the Board of Directors of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2001 - Dirksen 538

Mr. Chairman, I would like to thank Don Powell for testifying today and I would like to thank you for holding this hearing in such an expeditious fashion.

I think President Bush has once again demonstrated that he will continue to ask outstanding people to serve in his administration.

Obviously, Mr. Powell has a great deal of experience in the banking industry. I think he will do a fine job at the FDIC.

I hope that the committee will report this nomination, once we get our own organization settled, in an expeditious manner.

Once again, I urge all of my colleagues to Mr. Powell's nomination.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
