DODD ATTENDS WHITE HOUSE PRESS CONFERENCE ON HEALTH REFORM

Joins Baucus, Romer, Orszag, and DeParle for Release of Council of Economic Advisers Report - The Economic Case for Health Care Reform

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), a senior member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions joined Senator Max Baucus, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Dr. Christina Romer, Chair, Council of Economic Advisers (CEA), Peter Orszag, Office of Management and Budget Director, and Nancy-Ann DeParle, Director of the White House Office of Health Reform for the release of CEA’s report entitled, “The Economic Case for Health Reform.”

Dodd attended the press conference on behalf of Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Chairman Edward Kennedy.  Last year, Kennedy named Dodd his chief deputy for health reform, and has asked him to lead the HELP Committee’s efforts on his behalf.

“Today’s report makes clear that health reform can save families money and help them live longer, healthier, more productive lives,” said Dodd.  “Reform is essential to putting our country on a more sustainable economic path. We have a lot of work ahead of us.  But one thing is clear: economic recovery depends on reforming our health care system – and I believe this is the year we will.”

Dodd will join Senator Baucus and Democratic members of the HELP and Finance Committees later today for a meeting with President Obama on health care reform.
