BANKING COMMITTEE APPROVES TWO NOMINEES

WASHINGTON - Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Johnson (D-SD) released the following statement on the Committee’s approval of two nominations.  The Committee approved the nominations of Ms. Lourdes Maria Castro Ramirez, of California, to be an Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development by voice vote; and Ms. Therese W. McMillan, of California, to be the Federal Transit Administrator at the U.S. Department of Transportation by voice vote.

“Ms. Ramirez has the understanding and experience necessary to serve as an Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Her extensive background in leading and managing affordable housing and community development programs, and current role as the President and CEO of the San Antonio Housing Authority, has prepared her to lead HUD’s office of Public and Indian Housing, which oversees critical housing assistance to more than 3 million struggling families in cities, small towns, and Native American communities across the country.

“Ms. McMillan has served as Deputy Administrator at the Federal Transit Administration since 2009 and became Acting Administrator in July. She is well-prepared to serve as the Federal Transit Administrator at the U.S. Department of Transportation. As Deputy Administrator, McMillan guided FTA staff throughout the agency’s headquarters and ten regional offices, in addition to playing a key role in the implementation of MAP-21’s reforms to improve the delivery of financial assistance to major transit construction projects and strengthen safety practices at public transportation agencies. I am pleased that both of these nominations were voted favorably out of the Committee, and it is my hope that the full Senate will follow suit in a timely matter.”
