ICYMI: Chairman Scott Hosts CNBC’s Squawk Box at Senate Banking Committee, Highlights Bipartisan Results and Affordability Agenda

Washington, D.C. — Today, Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott (R-S.C.) hosted CNBC’s Squawk Box from the Senate Banking Committee hearing room, joining the program to discuss the importance of pro-growth economic policies, responsible federal spending, and bipartisan work to deliver results for the American people. Chairman Scott emphasized that policies should encourage affordability, investment, job creation, and opportunity, not punish success or make it harder for Americans to build and grow. Chairman Scott also highlighted the Senate Banking Committee’s bipartisan record, including the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act.

On rejecting a wealth tax:

“A wealth tax is just a terrible idea… If we want more revenues, we’ve got to figure out how to incentivize [growth].”

On capital gains and economic growth:

“When you lower the capital gains tax, the revenues went up. When you increase the capital gains tax, the revenue went down... If we want to have more revenue, then you probably want to have a lower rate.”

On encouraging investment and job creation:

“The long view is that the capital gains tax that is realized is reinvested in the economy, creating more jobs. So, if we’re really concerned about labor, the question is who creates more jobs.”

On responsible federal spending:

“A wealth tax is not the answer that we need. What we need is to examine where we’re spending money and what the federal responsibilities are.”

On bipartisan results in Congress:

“We’ve done it before, and we can do it again. It takes strong leadership, and it proves this Congress and this Senate can work in a bipartisan fashion.”

On the Senate Banking Committee’s bipartisan record:

“We’ve done the same thing on the Banking Committee. We’ve had a housing bill pass 24-0, fentanyl [legislation] 22-0. We’ve seen the kind of success the American people can celebrate if we talk about it.”

On protecting low-income Americans:

“Coming from a single-parent household in poverty, the one thing I can tell you is I care a lot about how we treat the poorest Americans.”
