Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee

Statement of Senator Wayne Allard (R-CO)
on the Nomination of Arthur Levitt, Jr., to be a Commissioner
and Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission

March 25, 1998

Mr. Chairman, I want to welcome Chairman Levitt to the hearing. I look forward to a full discussion of issues relevant to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The SEC is a very important agency, it plays a vital role in maintaining investor confidence in our financial markets.

Chairman Levitt has had a distinguished career in many fields. He is eminently qualified to continue as Chairman of the SEC. I look forward to his comments and to questions of the Committee.
