Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee

Statement of Senator Lauch Faircloth (R-NC)
on the Nomination of Arthur Levitt, Jr., to be a Commissioner
and Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission

March 25, 1998

Thank you Mr. Chairman.

In my opinion, Arthur Levitt's appointment to the SEC was one of the best the Clinton Administration made in 1993.

He was truly one of the stars of the Administration. I think he has done an excellent job at the SEC, particularly as an advocate of protecting the interests of investors.

I am strongly supportive of his re-nomination and I would urge this Committee to move forward quickly in approving his nomination.
