BANKING COMMITTEE TO HOLD HEARING
ON NOMINEES FROM CEA AND TREASURY

Sen. Phil Gramm, chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, has announced a full committee hearing on the following nominations on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000 in 628 Dirksen Office Building.

WHO:

Dr. Kathryn Shaw, of Pennsylvania, nominated to be a Member of the Council of Economic Advisors (CEA).

The Council of Economic Advisors provides the President with economic analysis and advice on the development and implementation of a wide range of domestic and international economic policy issues.

Mr. Jay Johnson, of Wisconsin, nominated to be Director of the Mint at the Department of Treasury.

The major activities of the Mint are the production of coins, both domestic and foreign; the manufacture and sale of proof coins and uncirculated sets; the custody, processing, refining and movement of bullion; the disbursing of gold and silver for authorized monetary purposes; the distribution of coins for general circulation through the facilities of the Federal Reserve Bank and Branches; the receipt of uncurrent coins; and compilation of general data of world-wide scope relative to gold, silver and coins.
