SUBCOMMITTEE ON HOUSING AND TRANSPORTATION
SETS HEARING ON HUD'S PUBLIC HOUSING ASSESSMENT SYSTEM

Sen. Wayne Allard, R-Colo., chairman of the Subcommittee on Housing and Transportation, has announced a hearing on the Department of Housing and Urban Development's new Public Housing Assessment System (PHAS).

The PHAS provides HUD with a scoring system for the physical inspection of public housing units. The subcommittee is responding to industry concerns that the PHAS does not accurately or fairly rate the condition of public housing units.

"After hearing from a number of housing authorities across the country who have expressed concern regarding HUD's implementation of the public housing assessment system, I have decided it is necessary to hold an oversight hearing on this matter," Allard said.
