SECURITIES SUBCOMMITTEE SETS HEARING
ON COORDINATION OF STATE INSURANCE REGULATION

Sen. Rod Grams, R-Minn., chairman of the Subcommittee on Securities, has announced an oversight hearing on Section 321 of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which deals with insurance regulation. The hearing will focus on states' flexibility in multi-state licensing reforms and creation of the National Association of Registered Agents and Brokers.

"Of all the provisions in the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the NARAB provision will be among the most challenging to implement," Grams said. "Implementation will require cooperation among numerous parties, including the state legislatures of more than half the states. For that reason, this week's hearing will be important to assure that appropriate steps are being taken"
