SECURITIES SUBCOMMITTEE SETS HEARING
ON COMPETITION, TRANSPARENCY IN THE FINANCIAL MARKETS

Sen. Rod Grams, R-Minn., chairman of the Subcommittee on Securities, has announced an oversight hearing on competition and transparency in the financial marketplace. The hearing continues the examination of the regulatory and structural environment for the changing securities markets and will include comment on the New York Stock Exchange's recently released market structure report.

"A strong economy, new investors and major technological advances have dramatically altered both the nature of competition and the potential need for new regulation of securities markets," Grams said. "It is our intent during these hearings to have all segments of the securities industry represented."
