HEARING FRIDAY ON TWO COMMERCE NOMINEES

Sen. Phil Gramm, chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, has announced that the committee will hear testimony from nominees to two positions at the U.S. Department of Commerce.

WHO:

ROBERT S. LaRUSSA of Annapolis, Maryland, to be Under Secretary for International Trade at the Department of Commerce.

Mr. LaRussa is currently the Assistant Secretary for Import Administration at the Department of Commerce. He is responsible for leading the Department's effort in administering U.S. antidumping and countervailing duty laws.

The Under Secretary for International Trade is responsible for policies and programs that promote world trade and strengthen the international trade and investment position of the United States.

MARJORY E. SEARING, of Chevy Chase, Maryland, to be Assistant Secretary and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service (US&FCS) of the Department of Commerce.

Ms. Searing currently serves as the Acting Assistant Secretary and Director General of the US&FCS. Prior to serving in this capacity, Ms. Searing was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asia and the Pacific. From April 1997 to July 1998, she was Acting Assistant Secretary and Director General of the US&FCS. From 1990 to 1997, Ms. Searing was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Japan.
