** REVISED -- TIME CHANGE **

GRAMM ANNOUNCES HEARING ON THREE NOMINEES;
VOTES SCHEDULED ON FOUR PENDING NOMINATIONS

Sen. Phil Gramm, chairman of the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, has announced that the full committee will meet at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, to hold a hearing on three nominees and to vote on four pending nominations.

WHAT:
Hearing and Vote on Nominations

WHEN:
10:00 a.m. May 10, 2001

WHERE:
Room 538, Dirksen Senate Building

WHO:
A hearing will be held on the following nominations:

John E. Robson, of California, as President of the Export-Import Bank. The Export-Import Bank facilitates export financing of U.S. goods and services by matching export credit subsidies from foreign governments and by absorbing reasonable credit risks that are beyond the current scope of the private sector.

James J. Jochum, of Virginia, as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration. The assistant secretary for export administration is responsible for overseeing the department's export licensing system and analyzes and develops policy relating to goods and technology subject to control for national security and foreign policy reasons. The assistant secretary also works with U.S. allies in implementing stronger and more uniform controls on strategic exports.

Peter R. Fisher, of New Jersey, as Undersecretary of the Treasury for Domestic Finance. The undersecretary advises and assists the secretary of the Treasury and the deputy secretary on all aspects of domestic finance. Specifically, the office is responsible for formulating policy and legislation in the areas of financial institutions, public debt management, capital markets, government financial management services, federal lending, fiscal affairs, government sponsored enterprises, and community development.

(While Fisher's nomination is not pending before the Banking Committee (by precedent, this nomination has been sent to the Finance Committee), the Banking Committee has held hearings on nominees for this position in the past because the undersecretary has responsibility for much that is within the jurisdiction of the committee. This hearing will provide an opportunity for members of the committee to probe Fisher's views on financial institutions and related matters and create a formal record of those views, as well as give Fisher the opportunity to hear from Committee members on this important issues.)

A committee vote will occur on the following nominees from the April 24 nominations hearing:

Mr. Grant D. Aldonas, of Virginia, as Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade.

Mr. Kenneth I. Juster, of the District of Columbia, as Undersecretary of Commerce for Export Administration.

Ms. Maria Cino, of Virginia, nominated to be Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Director General of the United States and Foreign Commercial Service.

Dr. Robert Glenn Hubbard, of New York, as a member of the Council of Economic Advisers.
