Senator Paul S. Sarbanes, Chairman of the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, has announced that the Subcommittee on Economic Policy will hold a hearing on the reauthorization of the Defense Production Act. The Act provides the President with a number of authorities intended to ensure an industrial base capable of meeting national defense requirements in peacetime and in times of national emergency. The Defense Production Act expires on October 12, 2001. Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY) will preside.
