Senator Paul S. Sarbanes, Chairman of the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, announced that the full Committee has voted to approve 5 nominees to various agencies under the Committee's jurisdiction.

"These individuals are all highly qualified for these positions," said Chairman Sarbanes. "We are moving quickly to put the President's team in place and with the approval of these nominees we have moved one step closer to their final confirmation. I look forward to a full Senate vote in the near future."

The Committee approved the following nominations today:

• Roger W. Ferguson, Jr., of Massachusetts, to be a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System; by a vote of 20-1;


• Donald E. Powell, of Texas, to serve as the Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; by a vote of 21-0;


• Angela Antonelli, of Virginia, to be Chief Financial Officer of the Department of Housing and Urban Development; by a vote 0f 21-0;


• Jennifer Dorn, of Nebraska, to be Federal Transit Administrator; by a vote of 21-0; and


• Ronald Rosenfeld, of Maryland, to be President of the Government National Mortgage Association (GINNIE MAE); by a vote of 21-0.
