GENERAL ACCOUNTING OFFICE
ON RECENT FINDINGS REGARDING
ACCOUNTING OVERSIGHT AND CORPORATE
GOVERNANCE IN THE WAKE OF ENRON

Senator Paul S. Sarbanes, the Chairman of the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, has announced that full Committee will meet to receive testimony from the General Accounting Office, the investigative arm of the Congress, on "Accounting Practices and Options for Reform." The Comptroller General will focus on accounting and financial reporting, the quality of auditing, oversight of the accounting profession and corporate governance. In addition, the Committee will hear from a panel of experts on regulatory oversight, conflicts of interest and other issues in the wake of Enron Corp. and other failures.
