SARBANES ANNOUNCES HEARING ON NOMINATION TO
FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY

Senator Paul S. Sarbanes (D-MD), Chairman of the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, announced that the full Committee will meet to conduct a hearing on the nomination of Anthony Lowe, of Washington, to be Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is the central agency within the Federal government for emergency planning, preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery. As part of FEMA's overall re-alignment, the Federal Insurance Administration and the Mitigation Directorate were united to form the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration (FIMA). The FIMA Administrator works to lessen the impact of disasters on people's lives and property through damage prevention and flood insurance programs.
