Bayh to Hold Hearing on Role of Charities in Financing of
Terrorist Activities

Senate Banking Subcommittee on International Trade and Finance Hearing Set for Tuesday

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Evan Bayh, Chairman of the International Trade and Finance Subcommittee, will hold a subcommittee hearing on Tuesday, June 4th at 2:30 p.m. in Senate Dirksen - 538 to examine the role of charities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the financing of terrorist activities.

The hearing will focus on ways to curtail the flow of money from foreign and U.S.-based Islamic charities to terrorist organizations. Experts at the hearing will testify about the scope of the current problem, steps the Administration has taken to curb the diversion of charitable funds to terrorist organizations, and what additional tools are necessary for law enforcement to identify and cut off terrorist financing networks.

Witness scheduled to testify at the hearing are: Mr. Kenneth Dam, Deputy Secretary of the Treasury; Mr. Khalil Jahshan, Executive Vice President of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, Mr. Matthew Levitt, Senior Fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy; and Mr. Peter Gubser, President of American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA).
