BANKING COMMITTEE TO
DISCUSS AFFORDABLE HOUSING
AND HEALTH FACILITY NEEDS FOR SENIORS

Senator Paul S. Sarbanes (D-MD), Chairman of the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, has announced that the full Committee will meet to conduct an oversight hearing on "The Preliminary Findings of the Commission on Affordable Housing and Health Facility Needs for Seniors in the 21st Century."

The Commission was created and appointed by the Congress to study the future needs of senior citizens for affordable housing, assisted living, and health facilities, as well as to make recommendations as to how to meet those needs. One of the biggest challenges facing policy makers over the next two decades will be how to address the housing needs of the growing senior population as the baby boom ages. The hearing is designed to start this important policy discussion.

The hearing will be held:

THURSDAY, JUNE 27, 2002
10:00 A.M.
538 DIRKSEN SENATE OFFICE BUILDING

Scheduled to testify are:

  • Ms. Nancy Hooks, Co-Chair; and
  • Ms. Ellen Feingold, Co-Chair, Commission on Affordable Housing and Health Facility Needs
for Seniors in the 21st Century.
