SARBANES ANNOUNCES HEARING ON NOMINATION TO
EXPORT-IMPORT BANK

Senator Paul S. Sarbanes (D-MD), Chairman of the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, announced that the full Committee will meet to conduct a hearing on the nomination of Mr. Philip Merrill, of Maryland, to be President of the Export-Import Bank of the United States. The Export-Import Bank is an independent U.S. Government agency that helps finance the overseas sales of U.S. goods and services.

Mr. Merrill has been nominated to serve the remainder of the four-year term left vacant by the death of John E. Robson in March. The term will expire on Jan. 20, 2005.

The nomination hearing will be held:
