Subcommittee Chairmen Named

Senator Phil Gramm, chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, has announced the senators who will head the five subcommittees within the Banking Committee.

The formal selection of subcommittee chairmen will take place at the organizational meeting of the full committee.

"We have a strong slate of leaders who are prepared fulfill our ambitious agenda for the committee this year," Gramm said.

For the first time, a vice chairman will be named for each subcommittee with responsibility for conducting oversight and investigation of government agencies, programs and laws within the subcommittee's jurisdiction.

"I intend to make the Banking Committee a major oversight committee in the Congress," Gramm said. "The new vice chairmen will make sure we perform the oversight duties that taxpayers expect and deserve."

The subcommittees and the nominees for their leadership are:
