Sen. Wayne Allard, chairman of the Subcommittee on Housing and Transportation, has announced an oversight hearing on HUD's Grants Management System.

"HUD has developed a Grants Management System to track the $6.6 billion formula grants program," Allard said. "The Housing and Transportation Subcommittee will look at whether the computer system actually works. Additionally, the U.S. General Accounting Office will release a report of their findings."

The General Accounting Office (GAO) report -- "Community Development: Weak Management Controls Compromise Integrity of Four HUD Grant Programs" -- examines the adequacy of HUD's management controls over its four formula grant programs. The four grant programs are HOME, Community Development Block Grants, Emergency Shelter Grants, and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS.
