TESTIMONY TO FOCUS ON EXPORT CONTROL ISSUES
Sen. Phil Gramm, chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, has announced that the committee will hold an oversight hearing on export control issues raised in the recent report of the House Select Committee on U.S. National Security and Military/Commercial Concerns with the People's Republic of China.
The committee will hear from the report's lead authors, Rep. Christopher Cox, chairman of the select committee, and Rep. Norman Dicks, ranking member of the committee.
"Our fellow lawmakers from the House side have expertise on export issues that will help members of the Senate Banking Committee as we rewrite the Export Administration Act," Gramm said. "We look forward to hearing about their findings."
The Banking Committee's oversight hearing continues a process begun by the International Trade and Finance Subcommittee and its chairman, Sen. Mike Enzi. The subcommittee has held four hearings this year on various aspects of export controls, and Senators Enzi and Gramm are planning to offer legislation later this month to reauthorize the Export Administration Act.
"Senator Gramm and I have been working on this legislation for months now, and the release of the Cox report helps to highlight the importance of passing this bill," Enzi said. "Hearing Representative Cox's testimony Thursday will move us closer to reauthorization of the Export Administration Act."
