TECHNOLOGY EXECUTIVES SET TO TESTIFY
ON EXPORT ADMINISTRATION ACT

Sen. Phil Gramm, chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, has announced that the full committee will hold a hearing at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 17, on the effects of the Export Administration Act on emerging technologies.

Gramm and Sen. Mike Enzi, chairman of the Subcommittee on International Trade and Finance, are preparing legislation that will reauthorize the Export Administration Act, which provides the legal framework for export controls based on national security and foreign policy. The EAA lapsed in 1994. Since then, its provisions have been continued by executive order.

In preparation for markup of the EAA reauthorization, the Banking Committee is holding several hearings this month, including two during the week of June 21. Markup is planned for the week of June 28.
