GRAMM TO UNVEIL CREDIT UNIONS' RESPONSE
TO PROPOSED CRA-LIKE MANDATES

NEWS CONFERENCE SET WITH CREDIT UNION LEADERS

Sen. Phil Gramm, chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, has scheduled a news conference for Thursday, Sept. 9, to discuss the correspondence he has received from credit union officials regarding a proposal to make credit unions comply with paperwork mandates and pass examinations similar to those required in the Community Reinvestment Act.

Gramm will be joined at the news conference by Dan Mica, president and chief executive officer of the Credit Union National Association, and by Ken Robinson, president and chief executive officer of the National Association of Federal Credit Unions.

The proposed mandates are scheduled to be considered next week by the National Credit Union Administration.
