SUBCOMMITTEE ON HOUSING AND TRANSPORTATION
SETS HEARING ON MANUFACTURED HOUSING IMPROVEMENT ACT

Sen. Wayne Allard, R-Colo., chairman of the Subcommittee on Housing and Transportation, has announced a hearing on S. 1452, the Manufactured Housing Improvement Act. The bill, introduced by Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., has at least 11 cosponsors.

The legislation would modernize requirements of the Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards Act of 1974. It would establish a consensus committee and process for the development and regulation of construction and safety standards for manufactured homes.

"Updating the manufactured housing statute will help us supply affordable housing," Allard said. "I look forward to hearing diverse views on this issue."
