Brown Applauds Tanya Otsuka’s Confirmation to the NCUA Board

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, released the following statement on Ms. Tanya Otsuka’s confirmation to the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) board. Otsuka previously worked for Chair Brown as Senior Counsel for the Senate Banking and Housing Committee.

“Congratulations to Ms. Tanya Otsuka on her unanimous confirmation to serve on the National Credit Union Administration Board. Her confirmation is also historic, Ms. Otsuka will be the first Asian American to serve on the NCUA Board in the agency’s 53 year history. Ms. Otsuka has impeccable credentials and will be an asset to the Board and a strong voice for consumers. Since 2020, she has served as a trusted advisor to me. Her colleagues on the Banking and Housing Committee will truly miss her.”  

In addition to Ms. Otsuka’s confirmation, the Senate unanimously confirmed Jennifer Fain to serve as Inspector General of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Ms. Fain’s confirmation comes at a pivotal time and will help provide essential oversight for the agency.  

The Senate also confirmed Mark Uyeda to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Spencer Bachus III to the Board of Directors of the Export-Import Bank, and Claudia Slacik and William Brodsky to the Securities Investor Protection Corporation.
