Readout Of Chairman Brown’s Meeting With Nuria Fernandez, Nominee To Be FTA Administrator

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, released the following readout after he met with Nuria Fernandez, nominee to be Administrator of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). If confirmed, Fernandez would be the first Senate-confirmed woman of color to lead the agency:

“Ms. Fernandez is the right fit for this moment and this agency. As FTA Administrator she will play a key role in ensuring that our public transit sector rebuilds and recovers from this public health and economic crisis,” said Brown. “During my meeting with her, we discussed key issues including investing in zero-emissions buses, workforce development, and made clear that we will need to build a  transportation and infrastructure system that will be robust, sustainable, and equitable for years to come. Ms. Fernandez deeply understands the dignity of work. I am confident that as FTA Administrator, she will give workers a seat at the table and pursue policies that create and sustain jobs in the U.S. and not abroad.”
