Statement by Senator Warren on Trump Executive Order Criminalizing Homelessness

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Ranking Member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, released the following statement on President Trump’s executive order to criminalize homelessness:

“The nation’s homelessness crisis is a symptom of our housing shortage and President Trump’s executive order to criminalize homelessness will make it worse. Cities that have successfully begun to tackle the homelessness crisis show us what works: meeting people where they are, housing them, and providing wrap-around services. If the Trump Administration actually wanted to reduce homelessness, they would stop taking every opportunity to gut affordable housing programs that help get people off the streets.”
