Crapo, Brown Introduce Bill to Reauthorize and Reform National Flood Insurance Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Chairman Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and Ranking Member Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) introduced the National Flood Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2017, a bill to reauthorize and reform the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which expires on September 30, 2017.

The legislation, which serves as a base text, would extend the existing national flood insurance program for six years and includes many important reforms, including in the areas of risk mitigation, mapping and program improvements.

“We have held multiple hearings and worked on a bipartisan basis to hear thoughts and concerns from the Program’s stakeholders, regulators and from Banking Committee members,” said Crapo and Brown. “This bill represents the many areas where we have found agreement, and we look forward to working with our colleagues to address outstanding issues.”
